Bus service changes in South Yorkshire from 23 July

As you are aware, bus companies in South Yorkshire are free to decide where and when they will run services and our bus network was significantly reduced following commercial reductions last year.

South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) has used its annual available budget to renew expired tenders and pay bus companies to reinstate some daytime journeys in South Yorkshire from Sunday 23 July 2023 to improve service delivery as follows:

Barnsley

  • 7 (Globe Coaches) – Barnsley – Hoyland – there will be timetable changes and an extension of the route to Rotherham (partially replacing services 236 and 136 in Rotherham). The service will operate hourly during the daytime on Monday to Saturday
  • 23 (Globe Coaches) – Stocksbridge – Penistone – Millhouse Green – there will be a change of operator from Globe Coaches to South Pennine Community Transport. No changes to the times or route
  • 23a (Globe Coaches) – Barnsley – Deepcar – there will be a change of operator from Globe Coaches to South Pennine Community Transport. No changes to the times or route
  • 24 (Globe Coaches) – Barnsley – Penistone – Ingbirchworth – there will be a change of operator to from Globe Coaches to South Pennine Community Transport. No changes to the times or route
  • 24a (TM Travel) – Barnsley – Penistone – the service will be operated by South Pennine Community Transport instead of TM Travel. No change to the times or route
  • 29 (TM Travel) – Sheffield -Chapeltown – Penistone – Holmfirth – there will be a change of operator from TM Travel to South Pennine Community Transport. No change to the times or route
  • 201 (Stagecoach) – Chapeltown – Stocksbridge – there will be a change of operator from Stagecoach to South Pennine Community Transport. No changes to the times or route
  • 217 (Stagecoach) – Swinton – Wath upon Dearne – Wombwell – New service to replace withdrawn service 223
  • 223 (Stagecoach) – Barnsley – Mexborough – Doncaster – the service will be withdrawn and replaced by new service 217
  • X20 (Globe Coaches) – Barnsley – Mexborough – Doncaster – there will be timetable changes for early morning and afternoon commuter journeys

Doncaster

  • 15 (First) – Clay Lane – Doncaster – Edlington – there will be minor timetable changes
  • 16 (First) – Doncaster – Balby – there will be minor timetable changes
  • 41 (First) – Doncaster – Scawsby – an additional early morning journey towards Doncaster will be introduced
  • 51 (Arriva) – Doncaster – Askern – Norton – there will be minor timetable changes
  • 52 (First) – Doncaster – Redhouse – South Elmsall – the 05:35 journey from Doncaster to Redhouse will continue to run on Mondays to Saturdays, operated by First. Other journeys will be withdrawn and replaced by new service 496, operated by Arriva
  • 54 (First) – Doncaster – Adwick le Street –there will be timetable changes on Monday to Saturday evenings and on Sunday
  • 57 (First) – Doncaster – Finningley – there will be timetable changes
  • 57a (First) – Doncaster – Doncaster Sheffield Airport – during the daytime on Mondays to Saturdays, service 57a journeys will be replaced by service 57 journeys between Doncaster and Auckley. Service 57a journeys to Doncaster Sheffield Airport will only run at certain times in the evening and early morning on Mondays to Saturdays, and during the daytime on Sunday
  • 84 (First) – Doncaster – Stainforth – Thorne – there will be timetable changes during the daytime on Monday to Saturday
  • 84a (First) – Doncaster – Stainforth – Lindholme – the service will only run between Barnby Dun and Lindholme during the daytime on Monday to Saturday and will be operated by Goodfellow Travel instead of First. Journeys between Doncaster and Barnby Dun will continue to be operated by First as service 84
  • 84b (First) – Doncaster – Stainforth – Sykehouse – the service will only run between Barnby Dun and Sykehouse, during the daytime on Monday to Saturday and will be operated by Goodfellows instead of First. Journeys between Doncaster and Barnby Dun will continue to be operated by First as service 84
  • 496 (Arriva) – Doncaster – Hemsworth – Wakefield – New service to replace some withdrawn journeys on service 52, running between Doncaster and Wakefield, serving Redhouse, South Elmsall and Hemsworth at shift times on Monday to Saturday
  • X20 (Globe Coaches) – Barnsley – Mexborough – Doncaster – there will be timetable changes for early morning and afternoon commuter journeys
  • X4 (First) – Doncaster – Doncaster Sheffield Airport – Monday to Saturday daytime journeys will be run by Goodfellow Travel instead of First. First will continue to run journeys during the evening on Monday to Saturday and all day on Sunday.

 Rotherham

  • 3 (Cawthornes Travel) – Rotherham – Ravenfield Common – there will be improvements to the timetable, with additional journeys introduced in the late afternoon on Mondays to Saturdays
  • 7 (Globe Coaches) – Barnsley – Hoyland – the service will be extended to run beyond Hoyland to serve Wentworth, Nether Haugh, Greasbrough and Rotherham. Buses will run every hour between 06:00 and 20:00 on Monday to Saturday
  • 19 (Stagecoach) – Rotherham – Dinnington – Worksop – there will be changes to the times of some journeys in the early morning on Monday to Saturday
  • 26 (Stagecoach) – Crystal Peaks – Killamarsh – Thorpe Salvin – the operator of this service will change from Stagecoach to TM Travel. There are no changes to the times or route
  • 26a (Stagecoach) – Crystal Peaks – Killamarsh – Thorpe Salvin – the operator of this service will change from Stagecoach to TM Travel. There are no changes to the times or route
  • 114 (Stagecoach) – Rotherham – Stag – the service will be reintroduced and operated by Stagecoach and run hourly during the daytime on Monday to Saturday, serving Rotherham, Clifton, East Dene and Herringthorpe. One morning journey on Monday to Friday will begin at Thorpe Hesley
  • 138 (Stagecoach) – Rotherham – Kimberworth Park – the service will be reintroduced with a minor route change operating every hour during the daytime on Monday to Saturday, going from Rotherham Interchange to Holmes, Bradgate, Kimberworth and Kimberworth Park
  • 217 (Stagecoach) – Swinton – Wath upon Dearne – Wombwell – a new service, operated by Stagecoach, will be introduced replacing service 223 and will operate between Swinton, Newhill and Wath upon Dearne during the daytime on Monday to Saturday. Some journeys will extend beyond Wath upon Dearne, to Manvers and Wombwell
  • 223 (Stagecoach) – Wath upon Dearne – Wombwell – this service will be withdrawn and be replaced by new service 217
  • A1 (Cawthornes Travel) – Meadowhall – Waverley – this service will be withdrawn and replaced by improved service X74
  • X7 (TM Travel) – Sheffield – Maltby – there will be changes to the timetable including an additional journey from Maltby to Sheffield in the morning, and from Sheffield to Maltby in the afternoon. There is also a change in route to serve Flanderwell and Sunnyside
  • X20 (Globe Coaches) – Barnsley – Mexborough – Doncaster – there will be changes to the times of journeys during the morning and afternoon commute times.
  • X54 (TM Travel) – Sheffield – Treeton – Harthill – there will be changes to the times of journeys on Monday to Saturday
  • X74 (Cawthornes Travel) – Sheffield – Tinsley Park – the service will be operated by TM Travel instead of Cawthornes and will run hourly during the daytime on Monday to Saturday between Sheffield, Waverley and Meadowhall.

 Sheffield

  • 5 (Cawthornes Travel) – Sheffield – Firth Park – the service will be operated by TM Travel instead of Cawthornes. No changes to the times or route
  • 6 (Stagecoach) – Sheffield – Millhouses – this service will run hourly during the daytime on Mondays to Saturdays. In Sheffield city centre, journeys will start and end at Pond Street (bus stop FS4). Journeys towards the city centre will run from Rockingham Street to Pond Street via Moorfoot (Cumberland Street)
  • 8 (TM Travel) – Sheffield – Birley – Crystal Peaks – there will be changes to the timetable during the daytime on Monday to Saturday (between Crystal Peaks and Birley). During the evening on Monday to Saturday and on Sunday (between Sheffield and Birley) journeys will be operated by First (South Yorkshire) instead of TM Travel
  • 8a (TM Travel) – Crystal Peaks – Birley – there will be timetable changes
  • 9 (TM Travel) – Sheffield – Darnall – Littledale – there will be changes to journey times during the early morning and late afternoon on Monday to Saturday
  • 9a (TM Travel) – Sheffield – Darnall – Manor Top – this service will be withdrawn
  • 10 and 10a (Stagecoach) – Manor Top – Sheffield – these services will be reintroduced and run hourly during the daytime on Monday to Saturday with a route change, and will be operated by Stagecoach:
    • Service 10 will operate in a circle from Manor Top to Heeley, Hunter’s Bar, Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield City Centre, and then returns to Manor Top
    • Service 10a will operate the same circle but in the opposite direction. Services will run every hour during the daytime on Monday to Saturday
  • 18 (First) – Sheffield – Norton Lees – Meadowhall – Hillsborough – there will be improvements to the timetable with extra journeys in the daytime on Saturday
  • 23 (Globe Coached) – Stocksbridge – Penistone – Millhouse Green – the operator of this service will change from Globe Coaches to South Pennine Community Transport. There are no changes to the times or route
  • 23a (Globe Coaches) – Barnsley – Deepcar – the operator of this service will change from Globe Coaches to South Pennine Community Transport. There are no changes to the times or route
  • 24 (Globe Coaches) – Barnsley – Penistone – Ingbirchworth – the operator of this service will change from Globe Coaches to South Pennine Community Transport. There are no changes to the times or route
  • 26 and 26a (Stagecoach) – Crystal Peaks – Killamarsh – Thorpe Salvin – the operator of this service will change from Stagecoach to TM Travel. There are no changes to the times or route
  • 29 (TM Travel) – Sheffield – Chapeltown – Penistone – Holmfirth – the operator will change from TM Travel to South Pennine Community Transport and evening and Sunday journeys will be withdrawn.
  • 31 (TM Travel) – Sheffield – Loxley – there will be timetable changes and during the daytime on Monday to Saturday the last journey from Sheffield to Penistone will be at 17:30 and the from Penistone to Chapeltown at 15:35
  • 32 (TM Travel) – Sheffield – Parson Cross – Northern General Hospital – this service will be reintroduced, operated by TM Travel, running hourly during the daytime and early evenings on Monday to Saturday between Sheffield Centre and Northern General Hospital
  • 35a (Cawthornes Travel) – Chapeltown – Thorncliffe Park – the service will be reintroduced, operated by Cawthornes Travel with journeys throughout the day between Chapeltown Rail Station and Thorncliffe Industrial Estate on Monday to Saturday based on shift times
  • 76a (Stagecoach) – Sheffield – Chancet Wood – the operator of this service will change from Stagecoach to TM Travel. There are no changes to the times or route
  • 83 (Stagecoach) – Chapeltown – Sheffield – Lodge Moor – there will be timetable improvements with the introduction of additional early morning journeys on Monday to Saturday
  • 181 (TM Travel) – Sheffield – Dore – the operator of this service will change from TM Travel to South Pennine Community Transport. There will also be a minor route and timetable change, with journeys towards Dore now starting at Sheffield Interchange instead of Sheffield High Street.
  • 201 (Stagecoach) – Chapeltown – Stocksbridge – the operator of this service will change from Stagecoach to South Pennine Community Transport. There are no changes to the times or route
  • 218 (TM Travel) – Sheffield – Bakewell – there will be improvements to the timetable with evening journeys introduced on Monday to Saturday, and additional early morning journeys on Sunday. There will be a service every 30 minutes on Sundays during British Summer Time.
  • A1 (Cawthornes Travel) – Meadowhall – Waverley – this service will be withdrawn and replaced by improved service X74
  • M17 (TM Travel) – Jordanthorpe – Dore – this service will be reintroduced, operated by TM Travel running hourly during the daytime on Monday to Friday, and hourly from morning until early afternoon on Saturday
  • X7 (TM Travel) – Sheffield – Maltby – there will be changes to the timetable including an additional journey from Maltby to Sheffield in the morning, and from Sheffield to Maltby in the afternoon. There is also a change in route to serve Flanderwell and Sunnyside
  • X54 (TM Travel) – Sheffield – Treeton – Harthill – there will be changes to the times of journeys on Monday to Saturday
  • X74 (Cawthornes Travel) – Sheffield – Tinsley Park – the service will be operated by TM Travel instead of Cawthornes and will run hourly during the daytime on Monday to Saturday between Sheffield, Waverley and Meadowhall.
