Northern raises awareness of unwanted sexual behaviour when travelling

Northern, alongside British Transport Police and Network Rail, has supported the creation of a short film to raise awareness of unwanted sexual behaviour in society.

The short film, created by students from Bradford City Community Foundation,

highlights the types of activity that are unacceptable, including cat calling, staring, up-skirting, cyber flashing, exposing, touching and pressing,

and encourages people to report it.

The idea is to help people feel safe and empowered when they travel and to feel reassured that help is always at hand if needed.

The video, along with information about how to report any crime on the railway can be found at media.northernrailway.co.uk/news/northern-joins-forces-with-bradford-students-to-encourage-young-people-across-west-yorkshire-to-report-unwanted-sexual-behaviour.

The British Transport Police Railway Guardian app

The British Transport Police ‘Railway Guardian’ app is an all-in-one safety app that allows customers to report crimes or concerns on the rail network, share their journeys with trusted contacts, and get access to news, guides, or support.

Details of how to download the app and how it works can be found at btp.police.uk/police-forces/british-transport-police/areas/campaigns/Download-Railway-Guardian/.

Any crimes or concerns can be reported via the app to British Transport Police, train operators, or anonymously to StreetSafe. If emergency assistance is required, this should always be reported by calling 999.
