Bus service changes in South Yorkshire from Sunday 12 May 2024

Bus service changes in South Yorkshire from Sunday 12 May 2024

As you are aware, bus companies in South Yorkshire are free to decide where and when they will run services. South Yorkshire’s bus network has seen significant reductions in the last year due to reduced passenger demand.

We have worked with operators and local authorities to minimise the impact on our communities and First South Yorkshire have listened to feedback from their public engagement events, which took place in March/April 2024

What services are affected?

From Sunday 12 May, some services in South Yorkshire will see minor changes to their timetables to improve service provision and, with funding from Derbyshire County Council, to provide a replacement service for Killamarsh. Changes include:

Derbyshire changes:

  • 80/80a (Hulleys) – Crystal Peaks – Killamarsh – Chesterfield – Bakewell – the service will be revised to run between Chesterfield Royal Hospital and Bakewell only. Journeys will no longer run between Crystal Peaks and Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

Following discussions between SYMCA, Derbyshire County Council (DCC) and the bus operators, it has been agreed that DCC will fund an extension of First service 120 to Killamarsh (see below).

  • 120/120k (First) – Fulwood – Sheffield – Crystal Peaks – Halfway – Norwood – one journey per hour will run as service 120k and extend beyond Crystal Peaks to run through to Norwood via Sothall (Harland Avenue), Holbrook and Killamarsh, reinstating journeys lost by the withdrawal of services 80/80a.

South Yorkshire changes:

  • Service 208 (First) – Sheffield – Brinsworth – Whiston – an additional journey will be introduced at 18:30 to assist with access to employment
  • Service 376 (First) – Doncaster – Clay Lane – an additional journey will be introduced at 05:35 to assist with access to employment
  • Service 387 (First) – Doncaster – Moorends – an additional journey will be introduced at 04:57 to assist with access to employment.
  • School buses – some timetables will see minor changes to assist home to school travel.

How is this being communicated to the community?

Our Travel South Yorkshire website, where we bring together information from all of the bus, tram and train operators, makes it easier for people in our communities to plan their journeys and keep up to date with the latest changes.

Details of the service changes along with timetables will be available on our website at travelsouthyorkshire.com/servicechanges from w/c Monday 29 April.

Timetable information on all affected bus stops, on buses and in Interchanges, will be updated as soon as all the information has been received and processed.

Further information about these service changes is also available:

How can you help?

I would be grateful if you could please advise your communities, family and friends of the upcoming service changes, and encourage them to plan their journey in advance and direct them to the above contact points in the first instance.
