Changes to bin collections over Christmas and New Year

Sheffield City Council and Veolia are advising residents that bin collection days will change for some households over the festive period.
Only residents whose bin collection day is a Monday or Tuesday will be affected, with no collections taking place on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Crews will be working over the weekend to ensure that nobody misses out on a collection.
Monday Collections:
If your normal collection day is Monday 25 December, it will now be Saturday 23 December
If your normal collection day is Monday 1 January, it will now be Saturday 30 December
Tuesday Collections:
If your normal collection day is Tuesday 26 December, it will now be Sunday 24 December
Residents experiencing these changes will find a bin tag detailing the altered collection dates attached to their bins over the coming days.
All other recycling and waste collections will take place as normal. Residents can check their collection dates here. All bins must be placed out by 7am on collection day with the lid closed.
Extra Recycling and Waste:
Between 27 December and 23 January, residents can place extra waste and recycling next to their bins.
Extra tins, cans and plastic bottles in a tied carrier bag, placed next to the brown bin. Glass bottles or jars must be placed inside brown bins, otherwise the extra recycling will not be collected
Up to two bags of extra general waste, tied and placed neatly next to the black bin.
Small bundles of additional paper and cardboard can be placed next to the blue bin for collection all year round – it needs to be neatly bundled and no larger than the bin.
Extra paper, card, glass, cans and plastics can be taken to local bring sites.
Extra waste and recycling can be taken to one of the five Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC). HWRCs will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, and will close at 3pm on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
