Rail timetable changes from 21 May 2023

The National Rail Timetable is changed in May and December each year. The current timetable started on Sunday 11 December 2022 and operates until Saturday 20 May 2023. The next timetable will begin on Sunday 21 May 2023 and will operate until Saturday 9 December 2023.

How will this impact rail services in South Yorkshire?

With effect from Sunday 21 May, changes will be made to a number of timetables for services operating in the region – affecting East Midlands Railway, London North Eastern Railway, Northern Railway, and TransPennine Express services as follows:

CrossCountry (XC)

Up to date timetables for XC services are available at crosscountrytrains.co.uk/travel-updates-information/train-timetables

East Midlands Railway (EMR)

  • Sheffield – London St Pancras
  • Sheffield – Hathersage – Manchester

Up to date timetables for the above and other services operated by EMR are available at eastmidlandsrailway.co.uk/timetables.

London North Eastern Railway (LNER)

  • London – Doncaster – Leeds

Up to date timetables for the above and other services operated by LNER are available at lner.co.uk/travel-information/travelling-later/timetables/.

Northern Railway (Northern)

  • Sheffield – Barnsley – Huddersfield (timetable in place until 10 September 2023)
  • Nottingham – Sheffield – Barnsley – Leeds
  • Sheffield – Moorthorpe – Leeds
  • Doncaster – Adwick – Leeds
  • Sheffield – Rotherham – Doncaster – Adwick/Scunthorpe
  • Sheffield – Rotherham – Doncaster – Hull
  • Sheffield – Rotherham – York/Hull
  • Sheffield – Hathersage – Manchester
  • Sheffield – Lincoln/Cleethorpes

TransPennine Express (TPE)

  • Cleethorpes – Doncaster – Sheffield – Liverpool
  • Sheffield – Hathersage – Manchester

What impact will these changes have on Tram Train services?

There will be minor changes to the Tram Train timetable to coincide with the rail network changes. This is currently being processed and the new timetable will be published at travelsouthyorkshire.com/en-gb/newsupdates/service-changes shortly.

Customers are advised to check before they travel and allow extra time to make their journey. Customers can plan their journey using the National Rail Enquiries Journey Planner at ojp.nationalrail.co.uk.
