Ecclesfield Parish Council and Bees

Bees and other pollinating insects are essential to life. They are vital to both pollinate the food we all need to survive and pollinate many of the trees and flowers that provide habitats for wildlife. However, they have declined massively in recent years.  Ecclesfield Parish Council is committed, therefore, to giving them a much-needed boost.

Simple actions

According to the Government, there are 5 simple actions that anyone can take to help pollinators:

  1. Grow more nectar rich flowers, shrubs and trees. Using window or balcony boxes are good options if you don’t have a garden.
  2. Let patches of garden and land grow wild.
  3. Cut grass less often.
  4. Do not disturb insect nests and hibernation spots.
  5. Think carefully about whether to use pesticides.

Actions that the Parish Council supports.

In addition, the Council has developed the Bee Squared Project….
